Gold and Peach Labyrinth

This half cabin quilt is composed of 30 blocks in a 5x6 layout. Each block is sashed with ivory linen, with colorful squares at each intersection.

This quilt is low contrast throughout except for some brief coral sections.  I am so glad I included those bright coral pieces in this pink and yellow quilt. It really needs those spots of contrast especially now that the stitching has changed the texture of the quilt top.

I designed this quilt to evoke the feeling of a labyrinth. A labyrinth is “a complicated an irregular passage or paths in which it is difficult to find one’s way. An intricate or confusing arrangement: a labyrinth of conflicting laws and regulations.” (Google dictionary)

Perhaps under this quilt a dreamer will go to work out the labyrinth of conflicting regulations and laws they experience. As a rule follower I would expect life to be orderly but rules always have their contradictions

This quilt made me think of how we look for the way out of the Labyrinth. Color and lines. Texture and stitches. All the things I love and that what brings me comfort and calm. I’ve been convinced for too long that I should want something different than what I enjoy, but desire is the way through the labyrinth. This quilt will always be a reminder to me of that.

This quilt will be for sale through American Feral Gallery in the near future. Contact me if you are interested.
